Apearance of a Window?

I have two machines. On one machine, if I double-click on, say, My
Computer, I get two sub windows in the resulting window - ICONS on the
right and what I will call a menu on the left (showing for example
'system tasks'). On the other machine there is only one sub window -
namely the sub window containing the ICONS. No menu sub window on the
left.

Now for my dumb question - How do I control which I get? I can't find
the setting to do the job. Obviously I set something on one machine
different from what I set on the other machine. The question is what?

I told you it was dumb!

Anyone?

Maybe here:

Line 78. Common Tasks View - Disable or Enable
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

After downloading, just right-click, click "edit" on the two .reg files
to see what they do.

Thanks

I wonder what each really does. I'll try them one at a time - they
appear to be opposites.

Hello, Jethro
Like the man sd, 'Dumb answers are still free.' So here's a free
answer:
Try this: Get on the machine that's got the performance you want to
change.
Bring up a window. Use the "Folders" icon on the menu bar to change
the window
to the setting you want all the time. Once you've got it the way you
want it, select Tools >
Folder Options > View > Folder Views, select "Apply to All Folders",
and OK your way out.
Perhaps this will help---Good Luck [:-P
