That AOL feature would be something AOL tech support may have an answer
about.

it seems to be a MS issue with the error message anyway

the pop up from microsoft says "system information applcation"
...encountered a problem and needs to close

error Signature:
AppName: sinf.exe AppVer: 2.4.1.1 ModName: sysinfo.dll
ModVer: 2.4.1.1 Offset: 0003933c

What if you launch the System Information utility with Windows manually
(Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information

Do you get an error launching that utility? If not, the problem is not with
that utility.

What exactly is it that you're running? Are you just doubleclicking on a
file, or is it a link in your AOL software?

Neither sinf.exe or sysinfo.dll are found on my default XP Pro install
so I would suspect that is an AOL issued item (Windows has Sysinfo.exe).
The MS error is stating that it is closing the program. I get the same
type of MS error message when Mozilla crashes itself, but Mozilla is not
a Microsoft program. Microsoft error handling is merely reporting the
program in question crashed and is closing it.

Yes, you're definitely having a problem with the AOL System Information
utility, not the Windows System Information utility. sinf.exe is the
executable for AOL's application.

http://messageboards.aol.co.uk/aol/e...lterRead=false

There are a couple of options there that hopefully may help you, otherwise
you should contact AOL tech support.

aol support went thru several steps but no success - tried uninstall several
times
only thing i can try is to install an older version of aol then upgrade from
that....

I am surprised it is not just a simple fix

Mostly it's recommended to avoid the AOL software. There is a reason the
membership is declining.

I second Bob I's recommendation. You would be better off without AOL
software. I don't know what it's like with current versions, in problems
with removing it, but in times past it was essentially impossible to remove
short of a clean install.
