Ok so here is my little story... I have been trying to connect to the
internet (all day!!!) via my ISP. I click on IE and all seems to be going
well..@ the bottom of the screen you see "finding site: verizon.com" yada
yada...the window hangs there for a few then just as it seems like its going
to connect it dosen't...then under the .."Finding Site:" it has changed to
the following..."slirsredirect.search.aol.com"...and it just continues to do
nothing. It never connects or fails it just keeps hanging there. So...can
someone pleasssse tell me what the deal is. Is it spyware??

Here are the things I've done to try and correct this...with no luck I might
add.
Resetting my computer and modem
reset internet properties
Looked into registry (over my head without step by step
Called Verizon -After their attemps was told to call AOL.
Called Aol- After their atemps to connect- left on my own and told to
re-install IE and aol????
Ran a couple different virus and spyware programs...found nothing.
reinstalled my ISP software. So here I am... It seems the only way I can get
on line right now is by going thru the install process with my ISP software
disk. It seems to set all the settings and then puts me online, but as soon
as I X (exit out) and then try to go back in like normal via IE thats when I
get all the trouble. So there you have it. So can someone please help me???
I'm staying connected right now via my install disk in hopes of some speedy
replies and ideas. Running windows XP . Thank You so much!!

PS I posted this yesterday in Networking and Web and got no replys. So sorry
for the double posting.

Ok Mouse,
Here is my guess. 1st I assume based on you saying you reset modem, that you
are using dialup?
Using Verizon is ok. Actually for thie I doubt modem or Highspeed matters.
The 1st thing I would try, again based on you saying you connect to the Net
via your ISP and not AOL,
Uninstall AOL. Also what vers is it?

Try connecting to IE w/o AOL. If that works then you can reinstall AOL. Just
make sure you do not set it as your default browser.
If you are running a seperate ISP you don't need to use AOL as default. For
that matter, depending on what you use AOL for you can do most the same
things w/o paying them. Use AOL.com

Anyway, good luck....

Thank You for the reply!!! Well I'm on day 2 and still not having much luck
so here is what i'm working with..

IE. ver6
Aol 9.0
DSL with a router\modem....Gateway?

Now today is seems that if I completely shutdown my computer and turn off my
router then bring it back up I can get on the net for awhile via IE.. I'm not
even messing with AOL right now.. I'm just trying to straighten out my
internet problems..anyway one of two things happens next i either lose my
connection or If I exit either way when I try to go back in I get
redirected...tonight it sends me to some file in system 32??? So is this a
spyware problem?? I've ran several well 2 programs and get nothing!! Please
help!! Thank You

Hi Thanks for the reply!!! I've had a heck of a time getting any help\one
to talk to me... anyway, no I'm not running Norton!! Yea one less headache
but none the less still having problems...basicly where i'm at now is the
only time I can get online is when i shut down my computer and router. Then
i can get on for however long it lasts...once the connection is broke whether
by choice or not I can't get back on without shutting down. I've ran several
spyware programs, and cleaned everything up, checked and re-checked all my
settings..all seems ok. So now i'm lost..I've done run out of ideas. Can you
suggest something else?? I will hold this connection for as long as i can for
a reply.. Thank you so much!!! " Mouse "
