While you say that "I even had this computer into a shop where the experts
can't figure it out and say everything is working correctly." but in the
same line you say "Yet XP won't detect or recognize the modem to talk to it.
" it is obvious that the "experts" didn't know what they were doing to say
that. If XP isn't recognizing the modem, AOL can't either.
Get into your system manager and check the modem yourself. If in system
manager there is a yellow exclamation mark on the modem it doesn't have the
correct drivers or isn't set up correctly. There were some win-modems that
would not upgrade from ME to XP. Without knowing the make and model of the
modem, this is the best answers I can give at this time. Check your system
documentation or run Belarc Advisor
www.belarc.com to determine the type of
modem you have and report back. With the make and model of modem you may be
able to go to the manufacturer's web site (either computer or modem) and
download XP drivers for the modem.
