Hi: I'm running Outlook 2003 and have configured an e-mail account to
access my AOL e-mail via IMAP. Works fine. But, I can't change the
location Outlook uses for its associated PST file.

It uses "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlookimap.aol.com-00000002.pst" and refuses to
let me move it.

I want the PST file to reside on another hard drive with the other PST
files I use.

How can I move this PST file so that Outlook can still use it with my
AOL imap?

thanks,
russ

AFAIK, IMAP .pst files cannot be moved.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. All
unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without
reading.

After furious head scratching, Russ asked:

I don't know about IMAP but the pst file can be moved.

Before you open Outlook move the pst file to the location you want it to be,
then open Outlook. Outlook will give you a message that it can not locate
the file and you can browse to the new location. This method may work with
other type of files, but I do not know that.

I tried to move the PST file and restart Outlook in hopes that Outlook
would come lookin' for it. It didn't, it just created another PST file
in the same location with the same name. :-(

Looks like its impossible to move an IMAP related PST file like i want
to do.

later,
russ

p.s. I searched the registry for the PST name and came up with
nothing. Not sure where Outlook stores the filename but that was a
rabbit trail.

I've posted how to move the IMAP PST several times. It's also in the
Microsoft Knowledgebase. Look for how to move the Hotmail PST. The same
method works for the IMAP PST. I've done it.

Brian: Thanks - that worked - and was stupidly simple. The only
problem is you can't rename the PST to somethng a little more sensible
than "Outlookimap.aol.com-00000002.pst". Anyway, this achieves my goal
- thanks again. Below is the link to the page you refered me toward:
