Anyway to get AVG to update "silently"

Here's the scenario.

I'm working along on a violent video game, word document, checking
usenet/email.. whatever. Suddenly AVG update pops up and takes attention
away from everything i was doing so it can update its def's. Not a problem,
just wait for it to finish and then exit, however some games and fullscreen
apps don't like to get minimized to the taskbar, more specifically don't
like to be brought back FROM the taskbar, and end up crashing. Is there
anyway to keep AVG from "stealing the show" when other apps are running? I
know NortonAV (I also run) updates silently in the background, but couldn't
find similar setting for AVG. Any ideas??

Before running your game/app update AVG manually.
Then it won't pop up.

All I can think of is for you to double click the AVG toolbar icon,
choose 'Update manager' and deselect 'Allow Scheduled Update'. You can
then download manually at a time of your choosing.

Assuming you are using AVG6 make a shortcut with this path...
"C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\AVGINET.EXE" /sched
Once its made rightclick the shortcut and select properties and set to run
minimised.
and put in taskmanager to launch at specified time.

Hi BB.

I just did as you suggested and will test it over the next few days.
I'm assuming one should disable the scheduled update check in
AVG Control Center... correct? My thinking is that your update
procedure will work minimized, but if AVG still tries to update
it will pop up normally and interfere as stated in the original post.

I used to update avg like that when i had it ,using net launch to launch
it.Yes you can disable the scheduled updates, and it should update totally
silently just showing in the taskbar.

I tried this. It checks silently, but when it updates, the usual windows
pop up. In short it doesn't seem to work any differently than scheduling
updates within AVG.

I'm using AVG6 free with Win98.

I dont have AVG installed anymore and cant remember if after an update , the
updated window pops up to tell you its been updated (though doesnt that
dissappear after so many seconds?), though it seems it does ,from what you
say.The reason i used this option rather than the sheduler , is that i used
it as an auto update whenever i connected to net , and found it more useful
than the scheduled update in AVG free which isnt that good in my opinion.
