Basic facts :
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Has two IDE connections and two SATA which Im not using.
Need 4 IDE connections so using a Maxtor Promise 133 IDE card
in a PCI slot to add IDE connections - 2 more.
133 Maxtors 8 meg cache
120 gig Boot disk Win XP pro
200 gig
60 gig
Obviously - the HDs connected to inboard IDEs work correctly.
But I also have 3 other drives - CD burner, DVD burner, DVD reader.
In the past these ATAPI drives didnt work right with added on IDEs
even if they were built in - like the boards that had 4 IDE
connections - usually an add on built in High Point or Promise etc.
You had to put the ATAPI on the first two IDEs but the Hard DIsks
would boot on the Highpoint/Promise add on IDEs.
The problem Im having - my Maxtors wont boot on add PCI 133
Maxtor/Promise card that came with the 200 meg. That doesnt ,make
sense.
Says NTLDR missing when I move the bootup disk 120 meg to the PCI
card. Non bootup HDs show up fine. And they bootup on the builtin
first two IDEs. When I move it back to the first IDEs it works.
BIOs -
First bootup - HD0
OTHER bootup device - Enabled
I tried FIrst bootup - SCSI
That didnt work.
Tried turning Other bootup device DISABLED
I did try the ATAPI - Liteon on the Maxtor PCI card and it appears OK
but havent tested it fully so that would be a solution moving all the
ATAPI stuff on the maxtor if it does work without problems. The thing
is I really dont know since on the Highpoint - it also showed up and
seemed to work but was erratic.
Is there some driver on the Max Blast disk I dont know of? The basic
Promise 133 trak drivers are installed. Is there some other one too?
Does WIN XP PRO need some update for it to work? I just installed a
pre-service pack 1 install from a disc - have updated it yet after
doing a fresh install since it wouldnt bootup in safemode with the
ABIT 333 WIN XP install even in safe mode.
I know you can boot up with it - or it would be ridiculous to bundle
the card with the Maxtor if you can bootup with the card.
