To the Freeware NG regulars;

I (& probably many others) would be very interested reading user
reviews & comments about this new freeware product from softperfect.com
(free firewall).

http://www.softperfect.com/products/firewall/

If you would, please post your personal experience with softperfect's
firewall.
Please include:
1. your type of OS
2. your type internet connection (dial-up, cable, dsl, etc.).
3. Also include if you are using a firmware firewall (like from a
additional router).
4. Please do compare it to the existing free firewalls you've tried
and/or are using now, like Sygate, Kerio, ZoneAlarm, & etc.).

:-)

This may discourage potential users:

"SoftPerfect Personal Firewall works at the NDIS level and it is not able to
determine what application is trying to access the Internet or a network
resource."

I saw this on Tinyapps.org and was reconfiguring a friend's PC (details
above), so I tried it.

It is nice and small and I like how it "Does not change your Windows
system files and does not require any additional libraries".
Unfortunately, I found the learning mode dialog too slow and clunky, so I
uninstalled it. It included several preset rules, but these were all
disabled by default, and I did not know which ones to enable. In order to
permit a single application I had to fill the learning dialog out several
times. Kerio, Sygate and ZoneAlarm are all easier to configure. Otherwise
it seemed OK, but I can only comment on its usability and not it's
security level.
