I use XP Sv. Pk 2. I think I might have deleted something I should not have,
and if it is correctable, I need to do so soon. It isn't my computer!
Symptons: Freezing up, I can't get into WExplorer, My Comp.
Messages come up "Errorr loading C:\Program~1\Newdot~1\Newdot~2.DLL, the
specified module could not be found. Appeared before I ran sfc /scannow.
and when I tried to open "My Computer" after sfc /scannow, this message:
The instruction at "0x600470a4" referenced memory at "0x600470a4". The
memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to to terminate the program.
Click on CANCEL to debug the program." I clicked on cancel.

Would my Dell disk help any, or am I sunk?

Thank you Claymore and Christine for your answers.
Can you tell me, is this newdot thing usually viscious?
A couple of websites said it was.
I believe I read on the new.net site said some viscious "leaches" name
themselves newdot, but are not actually from new.net.

Get rid of it! New.net & newdot.com are from the same outfit. Newdot
is insidious crap and the sooner you get it all off your computer the
better.

John

Thank you, John John for your answer. Sorry for my delayed response.

If someone can answer one more question about newdot, I would appreciate it.
I had deleted AOL and acccore[sp?], some start menu items (games,
shortcuts), and a screensaver that I had to delete manually because it
wouldn't let me change the screensaver, plus I added two users. Would one of
those actions have initiated newdot to become viscious? Before that, I could
tell the copmuter was lagging and had a slow startup, but I had access to
everything. After those changes, my computer was freezing up, & I can't get
into some progams, etc. It is going to be cleaned out, but I would like to
know if my actions started the viscious attack. I realize it could be other
things, but does any of this sound familiar with that particular leach? I'm
running Windows XP SP2, Office 2003 on Dell computers.
Thank you.

NO! Net Dot is not normally installed from any thing you do on your
PC. This is a "crappy" piece a software that gets installed usually
from the web or thru emails. Web sites can place "software" onto your
PC and people like "New" take advantage of this. This is in the
category of "spyware" softwares. Usually, repectable anti-spyware
removal tools can/would remove 'NEW" successfully. Several
"respectable" remove tools are:

AD Aware 2007
Spybot: Search and Destroy
Spyware Terminator

Thanks for the information smlunatick. My friend accused me of causing the
problem with my actions, but according to your answer, that is not the case.

Thanks to all of you for taking time.
