I have flat files that are supplied to an application that occasionally have
non-printable characters (such as "low values"). I'd like to open these text
files in a hex editor, which notepad is obviously not one.

Does anyone know of a decent free hex editor?

DevStudio comes with a built in hex-editor. (It's not free, but I assume you
have it anyways as you post in a dotnet ng.)

In VStudio 6, there's a combobox in the open-file-dialog "open as";
In newer versions, there is a little drop-down-arrow on the right of the
open button - use the "open as" item, select "binary".
