Anyone else with SpyBot crash problems?

This is the first time this has happened since I started using SpyBot
a couple of years ago.

My first couple of attempts at scanning for problems since the latest
update and my computer crashes a few minutes after I start the scan.

Just to be on the safe side, I've updated and ran scans with my other
spyware programmes (AdAware SE, AdwareAway, Spyware Doctor) and no
problems. Also updated and ran CWShredder - which found and fixed one
problem and then ran an online scan on the TrendMicro website:
http://www.trendmicro.com/cwshredder/ . That scan found seven
problems, including two trojans and a keylogger!!!

After removing all the problems I rebooted and tried using SpyBot
another couple of times - each causing a crash just a few minutes into
the scan. I'm wondering if the crash might have something to do with
the latest update. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Thanks, b

It's been 2 or 3 days since I downloaded the last updates and I've had
no problems. I usually do a scan every 24 hours or so.
I just checked for updates now and none were available, but I just did
a scan and again I had no problems.

Nicetametya;

I just ran spybot after a two- or three-week haitus after updating a
pretty beefy definitions list. No crash, no hiccups.

Come to think of it, I actually did that too. I have the latest
version of CCleaner on my desktop and use it regularly.

BTW - my entire system is becoming increasingly unstable and this
could be just part of it. My computer is around six years old (Pentium
III 733) and I think the motherboard may be feeling the strain. As a
result, I'm just about to replace my computer with an upgrade. Just
trying to hold on until then ...

This may not be related but of all the progs I run on my PC, SpyBot
consumes more CPU power than any other, normally around 80% CPU
usage ...in hot weather I have to avoid running it at all because of
CPU overheating problems.

Nicetameetya leapt out of the bath and screamed "EUREKA!" before

Hi,

XP here, and all fine.

However, I've had similar issues with other high "useage" programs, and
like hummingbird says, it points to an overheating CPU possibly.

Try running the scan with the case open / clean the heatsink / check
the CPU fan etc.

Try running the PC with the side of the case off / open and a desktop
fan blowing in etc.

Sounds like you still have a compromised computer. I'd uninstall the
program and reinstall it, update it and try again. If it still locks up,
then maybe another scan at the Panda site will help figure out what
remains:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm

since the (excellent) Trendmicro scan might have missed something.
