Any way to NOT show Zip Files in the Folder List?

When I use Windows Explorer and have the Folders on the left and the Contents
on the right, Windows shows me ZIP files in the folder list. Is there any
way to turn this off? I have tons of zip files and don't want my folder list
to be so huge but can't find any way to disable this.

Thanks.

Move the zip files to a different folder.
Have a special folder just for zip files.

I don't want ZIP files to EVER show up in the FOLDER list because they aren't
Folders, they are Files. I have zip files in many folders. Your solution
doesn't work for my needs.

What is the purpose of having ZIP files spread around many folders?

I would stick them all in one folder per Alan's suggestion.

Easy enough to find them using Windows>Search and move them to a new folder all
by themselves.

The point is, I shouldn't have to put all my zip files into a certain folder
just so they don't show up in Windows Explorer. There should be an option
somewhere for "Show ZIP files in Folder List" that I can turn off or some
registry setting I can use.

The Folder list is for Folders.

It's because you have the zip files in the folder branch you want to search,
you need to drop them to a lower branch to hide them
place them in a folder as the previous response advised.
Folder / Folder / Folder(with the zips)

OK. I don't think you understand what I'm talking about.

I have the My Documents folder like everyone else. In that folder, I have
lots of files including some ZIP files.

When I Open Windows Explorer, it has a skinny pane on the left called
"Folders" and the wider pane next to it that lists the files where I can
choose icons,, list, details, etc.

The problem is that in the FOLDERS list (left pane), beneath the list of
actual folders, Explorer lists all the Zip files too. They should be on the
right side with all the other Files. They should not be on the left side
because they aren't Folders.

I understand why Explorer does this is because then I can click the ZIP file
on the left and see the Contents of the file on the right. However, this
should be an OPTION if I want to use that functionality. Personally, I don't
use this and it's annoying that since I have about 50 folders inside My
Documents and also about 30 Zip files, that my folder list is 80 items long.

Yes, I could move all my ZIp files out of the My Documents folder and into
their own sub folder but I shouldn't have to do that.

Make sense?

Ah Ha. That was most helpful. I checked my other PC and it wasn't doing it.
I started looking around and found something in WinRar that was selected to
integrate it with the Shell. I turned that off and away went the icons.

Thanks.

Indeed.
I think you may be missing the point.
you have put a zip file in the folders branch
so of course it will show as a folder item.
Try putting a *.dbf file there, or a *.jpg or a *pdf
they will show up in the folder files as well.

You have created the situation, and you can repair it as well

When you realise what you have done, you'll have a smile.

If you do the following command:

regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll

it will disable the special handling that Windows does for zip files.

To turn it back on, do the same command without the /u
