avoid using Adobe? Its a huge program and I really prefer others (like Fox

You could go into Adobe Reader's preferences and disable its
integration with the browser. Then when you click on a .pdf file link
in a web page, Adobe Reader opens to accept the traffic for the
document rather than using the AX interceptor.

I could never find that file in AR...it's well hidden...like Real Player's
too.

Find what file?

If you meant the option to configure Adobe Reader to NOT integrate
with Internet Explorer, its is under Edit -> Preferences ->
Internet -> Display PDF in browser.

Alternatively, going to Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-ons
and disable the Adobe plug-ins.

to disable its integration with the browser - or switch, or something ...
