Hi. I am currently running Win98SE and have been
considering the upgrade to XP/Home on this computer. I
have a few questions that are not answered on the
Microsoft site. to wit: 1) Is the implementation
generally seamless? 2) Will all my programs continue to
run without having to be reinstalled? 3) Are all drivers
(printers, cameras, etc.) converted automatically? 4)
Will my computer boot faster, like a true XP machine?
Answers to these and any other words of encouragement will
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the tip. I have bookmarked that page and will
go through it before deciding. Despite the horror stories
I read on this newsgroup, I feel that XP would be the
logical thing to do.

The vast majority of posters to groups of this sort are the ones with problems.

The people that have no problems have no reason to post or to even try to find answers to nonexistent (for them) problems.

For most people yes. But, You should back=up your important data
first just in case.

That is impossable to answer as we don't know what prorams you have
install. Either download or run the Upgrade Advisor from the CD. It will
tell of any programs that won't work, Will need to re-installed after the
upgrade, or shouldn't have any problems.

3) Are all drivers (printers, cameras, etc.) converted automatically?

Agan impsossable to answer. If the device is newr then XP, Or the
manufacturer didn't provide Microsoft with compatable drivers, Then no.
Most pre-XP device will work though.

Probalby. But, since you are doing an upgrade ( Not recommended ) it
depends on how much junk you bring over and how many programs you have
set to start-up with XP.
