I'm considering getting a system based on a ASUS A8V motherboard and a AMD
Athalon of some sort. Are there any companies that sell pre-built systems
with this motherboard? I've done some searching and I've had a hard time
finding any.

Why don't you just build your own? It is quite easy you know and there's
plenty of help onhand via google, forums and newsgroups.

Or do you enjoy getting scalped for locked down nominal performance
hardware?

Ran across a post where someone mentioned he got his here bit pricey
concidering I just built one this week for around 1752.00 plus
shipping which i figure was around $60 or so total Compare my parts
to theirs and note i used a Platnium Edition X800XT and they are
using the cheaper Pro version

Guess youll have to add another 80-130 for operating system too
but still over 600.00 cheaper

I was hoping to save time and possible integration problems (I expect a good
builder would do some systems testing). If there are online builders using
this type of motherboard I'd like to at least see how much they charge.

We are willing to give you all the help you need to be a good builder
yourself and lead you in the direction to obtain software to test your
system. Dont think that someone doing this for a living is any more
capable than you are. They werent born doing builds. If you follow
my build parts for instance youll have a machine running first time
you push the start button as long as parts arent bad.

hmm Just noted thair price was with an FX-53 which at newegg is 516.00
more than my 3500+ so your lookin at a couple hundred in savings
building

I appreciate the help and the info in your other post to this thread. I
believe I can build my own system however I want to know what the
cost/equipment quality/time trade off is. The A8V systems from Widow PC do
seem pricey but there is the time saving and perhaps less hassle if there is
a problem with the system to consider.

I am looking at building a A8V system with an Athlon 64 3500+ for myself
and an A7N8X Deluxe with a XP 2700+ for my two Godchildren. I am pretty good
with this kind of stuff but it will be my first build from the motherboard
up. I would be interested in your recommendations. I am scavenging parts
from two other systems so I am really just focused on the mobo/mem
compatibility and video card.

for the A7n8x system, it will be mostly for internet access and office,
lightweight kids games. They are ages 8,6, and 2. I was planning to just use
a radeon 7000 card for video that I have on hand. I was going to get two
sticks of mushkin pc3200 512MB ram. I have a samsung 160gb sata drive I was
going to use for storage. Not sure on PSU requirements. I would like to keep
the cost down as much as possible on this system.

for the A8V system, I primarily do business apps, database and programming.
I wanted to put in an 9800 pro all in wonder card for video/video
processing, but not mandatory. I am not a gamer, but may get into it some
with a system that can handle good games. At this point I am looking at the
following for a config:

A8V mobo
A64 3500+
2x512 corsair xms pc3200 memory 2-3-3-6
36gb sata raptor for boot drive (may add another for raid 0 later)
2x 160gb sata Samsung (have already) in raid 0
coolermaster praetorian case
coolermaster 450W psu active pfc
samsung 16X DVD-rom
NEC DVD burner with dual layer write.
tube of artic silver.

I am not really thinking about overclocking at this point. This system will
smoke the dinosaur that I am using now.

I just builded a similar system.
Good choice of components (do I miss the video card?)
I used a CM Stacker chassis by Coolermaster, I can recommand that case!
One more tought: As you are going to use the system for business apps,
why using a RAID 0 solution for your data? If one of the two disks
fails all is lost.
I made a RAID 1 of two 250 GB SATA disks. At least my data will survive
a disk crash of one drive.
But even then one should make backups in case of fire or theft, but
I feel safer with it anyway.
