Any Hickies With the 1593 Build?

I don't see much below besides the perpetual WUproblems. Is the new 1593
WGA-enabled build OK? Why hasn't there been more discussion, since older
builds will drop dead in less than a month?

Maybe there's little discussion because it just works? Since most of the
update issues were really problems on the individual PC, they rarely
re-appear once they've been fixed. The only new update issue I've seen was an
apparently transient issue on x64 systems earlier this week.

About the only new discussions we should see are those caused by new
malware, since most other regular changes are now over with. The exception
will be new users of Defender who can't (won't) find the solution to their
known problem without posting.

I sincerely hope so. There certainly has been, how can I say, an assiduous
storm of updates pushed down recently. I give MS heavy points for that.

Defender used to have a reputation "for not catching anything." I've been
lucky; I can't speak to that, since my friends and I have been
spy/pfish/adware free lately. Mine's a "think twice before you click" crowd,
though.

Since Defender really depends a bit on the "think twice before you click"
idea when it warns of a potential issue, it's quite well suited to your type
of use. Unless Defender already has a detection in place for something new,
it assumes you'll make a reasonable decision based on what was happening at
the time, which may not be true for some people.

It's also important to realize that Defender doesn't attempt to replace
Antivirus, so there is a huge realm of malware it doesn't have in its
detections even though they are well known to other MS products like the MSRT
or OneCare. Matching Defender with a good free Antivirus should cover most
who don't participate in risky browsing behaviour quite well.
