hi all,

At the moment I am using Analogx proxy as Intrenet Connection Sharing tool
which is lovely and cool. I love it it is easy to set up and use. The only
problem is that it supports only 2 extra computers. But recently i have got
1 more which make it total of 4 computers. Therefore, i need to find a
freeware which enable me to use as proxy and easy to install and set up.

regards

It would be better to get a router as they are very inexpensive right now.
Here a router can be had for $20.00 after refunds. I hope you had AnalogX
proxy locked down as it is a magnet for spammer abuse.

I just had a look at the current version as I've not seen or used this
in a long time. I can't see where you are limited to 4 users - it is
after all a proxy server - anyone network computer that enters the
correct proxy details should be able to connect. I also note that
there's no apparent limit on email aliases - certainly not as low as
you suggest.

So first, particularly if you value the simplicity, you might recheck
whether the user limit you suggest is actually valid.

If you really find you need a more capable proxy your best bet might be
the 602 Software Lan Suite (see
http://www.software602.com/products/ls/) - this is still free for 5
users. But be warned, it is NOT as simple to set up as AnalogX and as
it includes a mail server, you MUST be super careful about security and
mail relaying. If you don't know about these aspects, make sure you
find out ASAP before trying to use the product.

But really, it's probably time you tried the internet sharing built
into Windows (ICS) - there are numerous guides on the net on how to set
this up and once set up it is much more versatile and effective than a
proxy based solution. And there are less security implications although
for any of these products you must be using a firewall.

See http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/ as a starting point
for this and other solutions.

And if you have a DSL connection you can consider one of the
modem/routers now available which will do the connection sharing thing
for you in one hit.

And lastly I do hope in the meantime you have AnalogX's security
setting correct (use the test button to check) - this program is widely
used by spammers as an avenue to hijack unsuspecting users.

Hi Anna

You might try Janaserver (http://www.janaserver.de/start.php?lang=en). It
does a very nice job and there is lots of support in their forums
(http://www.janaforum.de/)

A switch and a router are not necessarily the same thing (but a router
can include a switch).

If the device is a router and it supports NAT (net address translation)
then you most certainly don't need a proxy to share your internet
connection. If the device is simply a switch, you still don't
necessarily need a proxy if you use Windows ICS.
