You should immediately stop writing to that drive. Turn off the
computer, take out the hard drive with the corrupted file system, and
connect it to a friend's computer running some version of Windows
NT/2000/XP. Make sure that that computer does not recognize your drive
as the boot drive, or it will try to boot from it. Make it the slave
device, for example.

I've never used it, but it's the only freeware I'm aware of.
You may want to make an image of the data on the drive with this
program:
http://www.partition-saving.com/
for attempting future recovery after you've reinstalled your operating
system. I recommend a complete reinstall, and not a repair of the file
system.
