Hi I'm having this recurrent problem in windows xp. Recently, when I
try to open a file in any program, windows closes such program without a
warning or error message. This has happened on several different
applications. For
example If i choose file>open, in Word, the browsing explorer will open so I
can locate the file but as I move from directory to directory the program
crashes just like that.

I checked the event log and it seems that the problem could have something
to do with msvfw32.dll, which is a video dll. Before the problem happened I
had a problem with a video I was editing, so most likely this was the thing
that started all.

Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If any files are damaged
or missing, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards so
damaged files will be replaced.
