Antivirus XP2008 Removal?

Can anyone advise on how to remove this entry? It comes up as
Antivirus XP2008 and it looks very legitimate, but I'm sure its not,
being as obtrusive as it is. I've tried removing it from my add/delete
programs file but no go. Does anyone even know what this does or is?
It's incredibly annoying-pops up every 25 seconds or so with a message
like...your computer was found to have 1564 virus, its is recommended
that you use protection now!. I'm not too computer savvy so if you
reply, could you 'dumb it down'? Thanks in advance!

Sorry but there is no way to "dumb it down". If the following is too
confusing, take the machine to a pro. See below.

Your system is infected with a rogue antivirus program. It is called "rogue"
because it pretends to be A Good Guy but is really Evil. Do not pay them!

Here are removal steps:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malw...antivirus-2009
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic154529.html (earlier versions)

These may work for you and all may be well. However, in many cases the
computer will also be infected with Zlob and/or Vundo trojans and protected
by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean.

If your machine is one of these cases, either get guided help at one of the
specialty forums below OR back up your data and do a clean install of
Windows. It is your choice. If you are unsure how to back up your data or
how to do a clean install, you can take your machine to a local computer
professional. I don't recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of
places.

I'm so sorry that you haven't recovered from your accident, Chris.
Apparently the horror of going off a cliff has caused you to think you are
an MS-MVP when you aren't. Nor should anyone download files from a website
which hosts pr0n.
