Hi, I bought NAV2002 when it was new, I keep my virus definitions up to
date, but I'm still getting all kinds of trojans and other viruses that
Norton sniffs out but is unable to repair the files. All it does is
quarantine the viruses. Is this just because I haven't bought the latest
version of NAV? Or maybe I should uninstall NAV2002, and go with AVG. Any
assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Had a 'page redirect' that resets your home page and infiltrates other
sites.. It was impossible for me to find anything that could remove it.. I
have installed, in no particular order, Spybot, Adaware,
CWSchredder ad infinitum.. This was AFTER i re-installed XP to get rid of
these...Symantic/Norton nor most other anti virus programs will keep this
stuff out, from what i have read on the Web and from experience.. These
jerks are finding new variants of worms, trojans, redirects etc every day;
so no software can really be expected to stop them all..
Think of anti-virus software and trojan blockers as you would a
'lifejacket'.. The lifejacket won't keep you from falling overboard, but it
might keep you from drowning.
While a re-install is a radical step, it was the only way i could clean the
HD for certain..I don't recommend you do this, it was my choice.
Fact is, no matter what you have on the PC to prevent all this crap from
getting to it, sometimes stuff gets in, one of the truly annoying and
treacherous aspects of being online.. Some jerk can screw-up your OS and
loves doing it because the jerk knows it is annoying. I had a Search Engine
pop-up over a portion of many windows i opened and theree was no way to
minimize it unless i closed the parent window. Read all you can about this
stuff Online, stay informed and then pray.

Many files that are infected with viruses can't be cleaned.
You will either either have to delete them or quarantine
them. My suggestion is to delete them and if necessary
replace the infected file. NAV is one of the top rated
anti-virus packages and as long a you keep it updated it
should do a good job for you.

You have to determine why you get the viruses in the first place.
