How do I do an anitvirus scanning in "safe mode? Which is the Fucntion key
that I need to push after starting the computer? (Someone told me in a
newsgrouop somewhere not too long ago and now I could not remember, so thank
for the information again).

By tapin the F8 on Boot up and you will get the Boot up menu select Safe
Mode and there you can scan with your AV or Online from another vendor, you
may have outdated or malfunction AV so best to get another check done by
another vendor.
