It appears I was able to use ewido.com for a scan...
It found thousands of cookies and few Hotbar items that I was able to
remove... Nothing else has show-up

Is there any of the online virus checkers that i might be able to visit
since i am blocked from Trend, Panda and Kaspersky... I saw a reference
to heur that i remember for a while back... But that is where I am now...

I do not have the windows disk for a reinstall, need to struggle with
correcting this installed version...

I have the new version of AVG installed, but can not update or run can
access the disk..

I can get into a command window - is there a method to update AVG via a
command window or run it from a command window?

I was able excute # 12 from CD -

Now i have access to software, but still can not update AVG, or visit any
antivirus software site, nor Microsoft...

PCpitstop.com is accessable but it dies...

Firefox is still disabled...

My Multi-AV Scanning Tool may be of assistance.

Once downloaded, read the PDF Help File. It will explain about how to use a surrogate PC
to download all the needed files and trasfer the C:\AV-CLS folder from the surrogate PC to
the affected PC to perform a scan and clean.

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file.

I have been very busy, and did not get back to you as you requested. The
computer in question died before I was able to attempt your procedure...
I was able to move the drive and use a linux live CD, to get all the
files I needed to save, scanned them with the Linux Anti-virus and
eliminated more than a few unwanted infections...

I posted the saved & virus scanned files to another NTFS formatted drive,
and ran a proper windows anti-virus scan and did not find any aditional
items... Then I moved the files into the clients new system - A $99 AMD
5600 processor and motherboard combo with two sticks of 6400 memory, from
my friendly Fry's Electronic brick and mortar store...

The client does mostly digital photos, on-line e-mail, and some bowling
league book Keeping. Rather than reinstalling windows, she opted to have
a 64-bit Linux operating system installed, with a little arm twisting.

I spent some time with her and she is quite pleased with Digikam for her
photo album, and she got a book to assist & shorten her learning curve
with the free Gimp 2.4.6 for image editing...

I upgraded her Open Office suite, from 2.3 to 2.4.1 and it reads her
Microsoft files, so her bowling records are easy, and she is less prone
to the malware that is pervading the www when she goes surfing....

Thanks again for your time and suggestions, I will keep the info for the
next system i need to struggle with, but I am certainly surprised that
one of the anti-viral companies does not create a snapshot CD scanner
that will run & update from a CD for this specific purpose...

The problemn with an "image" on a CDROM ios that by definition, CDROMs are Read-Only.
Anti virus software changes daily between signatures and engines. Therefor Read-Only media
is very, very, limiting.

Using a utility such as my Multi-AV with Read-Write media such as a Flash Drive will allow
one to alter the the Engine and Signatures more readily.
