When I check taskmngr, IE is shown more than once as a
running process, depending on how many times I have
clicked on it's icon. the UI however remains invisable.
After my frustration with IE not showing its UI, I
installed Netscape 8.0, which runs with microsoft
antispyware without any problem.
Internet Explorer UI is seen only after uninstalling MAS.
I am running windows xp-sp2 and IE 6.0
What could be the problem; Is it webroot spysweeper or
Norton Antivirus (system works).

Have you checked to see whether the IE window is positioned off the visible
screen?

I've not run into this before--I think I'd be inclined to recommend
simplifying to see whether eliminating some of the other variables fixes
things.

Can you try using MSCONFIG to eliminate SpySweeper, and turning off various
parts of System Works to see if a given change allows this to work.

I hear you when you state that uninstalling Microsoft Antispyware removes
the behavior, but I've never seen this behavior with just Microsoft
Antispyware and IE involved--so I'm guessing at something a bit more
complex--if I were betting, it'd be on something related to Norton's
software--but I'm not sure how easy it is to turn it off completely using
MSCONFIG.

And now, of course, I recall why I didn't suggest that earlier:

Remember in turning off Norton with MSCONFIG that you may be eliminating
your firewall. Turn on the Windows or XP firewall, or unplug the Internet
connection while testing.

possible I have too many antispyware (Webroot spysweeper,
Webroot cleansweep, Yahoo toolbar antispyware and MSAS?
And of course Norton SystemWorks

The help file and release notes suggest that you should disable other
antispyware applications that provide real-time protection during the
installation process for Microsoft Antispyware.

Otherwise, they say no known incompatibilities. That's been my
experience--there are some interactions--you can get multiple flags for a
given thing that is happening, but I've run the NIS version which has
integrated antispyware along with Microsoft Antispyware without significant
issues.

Many reviewers, including those who wrote the recent Consumer Reports
review, advocate running multiple antispyware applications.
