Antispyware Beta renders McAfee Online protection disabled.
As my McAfee was non-functional, a VBS/psyme trojan found
it's way into my I.E.
This trojan is described on McAfee.com
It cannot be cleaned. The file must be deleted.
To get McAfee enabled, Antispyware Beta & McAfee must both
be uninstalled. Then reinstall McAfee Online.

I do not have Mcafee installed so I'm not sure if there
is a compatibility issue with these two programs but I
think it may be the VBS script itself that shut down your
AntiVirus protection.

This VBScript is also known as Trojan.VBS.KillAV because
it termintates Antivirus Protection, Some variants also
try to steal passwords by downloading password-recovery
software from an ftp/http server then uploads the
passwords & other system information back to the ftp
server.

The VBScript name could be anything, There is usually a
updater called winupdate.exe but there is many variants
of this and it also downloads genuine files which help
with password recovery and formatting the stolen
information before sending it back out.

Check for this file :

C:\Windows\Winupdate.exe.

If the above file exists then there is also a registry
entry to go with this:

RegValue :

(Start>Run>Regedit)

Find this Run Key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Run

Left click Run and in the right pane delete this if it
exists(Right click Microsoft Eventlog and choose delete):

"Microsoft Eventlog"="%Windir%\Winupdate.exe"

If you need any more info on editing the registry let us
know but its easier for you to run some Antivirus scans
and Ewido to make sure the malware files have all been
deleted.(I'll list a few incase you have problems with
any)

Kaspersky

Also check windows updates to make sure you have the
latest security patches and service packs installed :

If this is a compatibility issue then Im' sure there is
other's here who use Mcafee who could confirm that and
offer other suggestions

Regards

Andy

I have MS Antispyware 1.0.615 and McAfee VirusScan 10.0
and there is no issue with these two programs. Before I
had McAfee VirusScan 9.0 but I upgrade to 10.0 because
the license expired, but there is no issue with MS
Antispyware and McAfee VirusScan.
