I have a laptop running windows 7 with Microsoft Security Essentials. The other day I get the msg. that says my computer is infected and someone is trying to access some port and did I want to fix it. The only problem what the antivirus software was not Security Essentials that was displaying thismsg. It was one of those fake software deals that tries to get you to buysome peace of crap software.

I had to start the laptop in safe mode then do a system restore to get it back where everything would work again. Now its done the same error again.

Whats funny about this that both times it has done this there is an icon onthe desktop that says "Test" The only thing this laptop is used for is toread e-mail (Hotmail) and play games like spider solitaire.

Any ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix it for good?

Thanks in advance

There is no real point in scanning email itself.

I agree with that. Memory hog. Any decent antivirus will warn
you when you open the bad attachment. No point at all scanning
anything before it's opened.

System Restore may help. Find a safe checkpoint!

The only thing you may find in "email" is URLs pointing to malware.

That's if you do the usual security measures of not automatically
launching any "excecutables" while reading email.
