anti virus conflict ???

If I install Symantec Anti Virus or F-prot both my dvd player and dvd
recorder cannot read anything. My pc recognizes both hadware, I can see that
in each player a cd is inserted but I cannot read them.
If I uninstall Symantec or F-prot, including a complete register cleanup,
both players work normal.

I have had installed Norton 2004 but it was slowing down my system in a way
that wasn't acceptable.
Norton is also removed entirely.

Anybody with similar problems ? Please help.
