Every time Sophos Anti Virus updates I now get a message
saying "An Unknown Startup Program Sophos Anti-Virus
Requires Approval" and have to 'allow' it to add to my
start-up list. I assume this is happening every time
because Sophos updates by uninstalling and then
reinstalling itself, but any ideas on how to fix it?

You could try: real time protection, application agents,
startup files or startup registry files (depending on
where Sophos puts its startup), then click the link manage
allowed/blocked. I think it should give you the option to
always allow specific programs that it has alerted you to.
Unfortunately I have not yet had the opportunity to test
that part as I've not had any alerts, so I'm not sure.

Or turn off the active monitoring before updating Sophos.
