Another "unexpected" system restore error

Greetings from (old) Europe!
I get an error message that says approximately: "an unexpected error has
occured. No change has been made to your system. The program will now close,
etc."
No error code, just in the event observer an event ID 8209.
I'm pretty sure that, in the big country where Bill G. was born, someone has
got a solution
Thanks in advance
JL

Best thing you can do for your system is to put your Vista DVD back in the
drive, reboot and wipe your system clean. Reinstall everything. Don't
backup your data because it will be infected.

This should solve your problem. Just FYI.

If you have any Symantec/Norton software installed, see the following
website.

"Restoration Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored . . . ":
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html

Otherwise, go here:

Error message created by System Restore, file backup and Defrag in Windows
Vista::

Very little can infect data.
He would be pretty safe to copy the data and then virus scan it after he has
fixed the problems.
As long as he doesn't include any registry entries or executables he should
be OK with a good virus scanner.
