My HP DVD burner died. So I picked up a new memorex 16x dual layer dvd+/-RW
drive to replace it.
When the drive is installed, XP will not boot (normal or safe mode). In safe
mode it gets as far as loading BUP.sys and just hangs. In 'normal' mode it
shows the 1st splash screen forever - disk activity stops 15 sec or so after
the splash screen loads.
The system is dual boot (Win98se) & the system boots ok & I can access the
drive ok from win98 (as a CD) so it doesn't seem
to be a hardware problem.
The system also has another memorex DVD burner (True 8X) and that works ok
in XP. (both drives are accessable in win98)
System: Athlon 3200+ on A7n8X MB
16x-dl > secondary master
8x > secondary slave (tried them reversed also)
Two HD on the primary channel
Also, Adaptec 19160 SCSI adapter with 3 drives on it.;
Before the memorex DL I tried a Sony DVD+/-RW - DL drive. Exactly same
problem. Sony T.S. said to get rid of sp2.
I didn't want to do that so tried the memorex.
I removed all dvd software from the XP system & cleared the CD filters from
the registry.
Any ideas ? I could get rid of sp2 - but after all the effort getting
everything to work in it I really hate to do that ....
Thanks,
Dale
