When my system has booted up and I have logged in
to the desktop there is a short period while programs
load and appear on the taskbar.

Just as the process completes there is a sudden
drop in the screen brightness.
I'd estimate it to be around 10% but, of course,
it's difficult to put a figure on it.

Is this something anyone else notices?
Does it indicate a problem?

It's a Dell E520...

The only thing that I can think of is have you run a monior/screen
optimisation wizard, I know there is usually one built in to the NVIDIA
control panel and it could be that if you have run this it is one of the
programs starting up with the PC hence the drop in the gamma on the screen,
Might be worth check for any display optimisation and setting them to default
to see if this issue stops.

In ATI go to the Catalyst Control Center/Color and click on Reactivate
ATI color controls.
