Another reason to hate Epson

Well, maybe "hate" is too strong, but they sure **** me off.

I purchased an Epson 2400 scanner because they had a $30 rebate. The
scanner is good and I like it, but they refused to honor the rebate.
I sent in all the information and met all the requirements of the
rebate form. Still they denied it. Why? Because I purchased it at
Staples and they don't honor rebates on purchases from Staples.

It doesn't name Staples or any other store on the rebate form, so how
am I supposed to know? I printed the rebate from directly from the
Epson website. It does say that some stores may require their own
rebate form. I asked Staples when I purchased it and they said this
form was good. So, who do I blame? Epson - without a doubt.

There's been a lot of complaints with rebates, not just with
Epson. I had a problem with PartitionMagic rebate.

Complain to Staples and see if they will honor the rebate.
If that doesn't work call the FTC:
877-FTC-HELP

So, Epson warned you that their form might not be applicable in certain
stores before you bought it.

So Epson have now confirmed that Staples are such a case as they warned
you about.

Clearly Staples misinformed you then.

Can you run the logic of that conclusion past me again?

This isn't a reason to hate Epson, it is a reason to hate rebates. I would
welcome a federal law making offering rebates a crime punishible by death
:-).

If they want to sell the product for less, then just $#@! sell it for
less, forget the friggin time wasting rebates.

Right now, given two products, one with a rebate and one without, I always
pick the one without so I'm not tempted to fool with the rebate form.

While they are at it, I wish they'd stop with the "buy one get one free"
crap in grocery stores too. I don't want two of em, I just want one,
but they look at you like you have lobsters crawling out of your ears
if you try to buy just one :-).

I am surprised that he hasn’t figured out yet that when Sam’s Club, Costco,
and Staples sell their products at a low price (often less than other stores’
prices less rebates), that the rebates don’t apply to those stores.

and on some items they double (or nearly double) the price for the duration
of the sale :-).

My favorite misleading ad is the Cingular cell phone campaign, now in full
swing again -- no roaming charges ever! What could be better?

The fine print is that they achieve that by simply not working outside of
their own coverage area, which is about the same as the competition's. Fine
until you need to call AAA or 911 or some other emergency.

Follow-up on this....

I went back to Staples with my paperwork. They cheerfully refunded
the $30 rebate amount... plus tax.
