i am having a problem with it on xp pro sp3 on my test box
it runs fine but when it reboots there is no icon in the task manager and a
box pops up doing boot up that says
C:/Program Files/Microsoft/Search Enhancement Pack

send an email off to ms- no reply yet
very weird

if you double click the desktop icon then it goes into the taskbar
but that is not a good thing

I think I've seen both those things--missing icon, and that box--not sure
exactly where that box comes from--it was odd, and I was busy and just told
it to go away. Will watch for it when I hit some other machines.

it seems that if you have Windows Live Essentials on your computer (live
email and windows live messenger or any of the other live products) it
interfers with this particular folder Crogram files/Microsoft
/Enhancement Pack and on reboot this folder pops up. Also you will loose
the Essentials icon in the task bar

What i did to fix this after searching the web
Open and run regedit
Navigate to HKey_local_machine
Software
Microsoft
Search Enhancement Pack
Choice Guard

from there you will see the product key
copy it to notepad and type this before it
msiexec /x {product key}
put the product key inside these brackets , copy the whole thing and go to
Start/ Run
it will proceed to uninstall the choice guard

reboot the computer when it is done
and no more popup and now MS Security Essentials loads

this needs to be fixed because so many people do have live essentials.

I have heard some who have Vista are also seeing this problem.
I found this to happen in xp pro sp3 on my test box

this is microsoft 3rd party software- it installs when you install windows
live mail, messenger or anything else windows live
I have windows live mail on 7 computers running xp or vista and I never had
this problem and still do not
I only had it when installing ms security essentials
on xp so far- I am running a scan on my other windows 7 rc on my laptop that
has windows live mail- we will see if it happens when I reboot it
but so far 3 on the forum are seeing the same problem on xp
and yes I know it is beta- that is why we are testing it to get these kinks
out now- and hopefully microsoft sees it and fixes it

Wow--that's not going to be one that the masses will want to do! (They can
issue a Fix-IT KB article to do it, though.)

Thanks--I have Live on a bunch of machines because the photo indexing thing
is nice.

OK, btw, you should be able to provide feedback directly to MSConnect, AFAIR.
