XP pro with SP 3.

Some may remember that I contracted a boot problem a few weeks
ago.Restore fixed the problem.

This problem is different.

I can boot to Safe mode as before,, but booting to windows only gets as
far as the wall paper being displayed. the desktop icons never appear.

Ideas still appreciated.

Same solution: While in Safe Mode, use System Restore to return to a stable
configuration. You should also reflect on what exactly you did just before
this problem occurred.
