Hi folks

Doing a little upgrade to my pc,but problems afoot

gigabite S-series ga-965p
E6600
2 gig corsair
leadteck 8800gts
550 watt psu

I'm trying to install windows xp, but just at the windows start-up screen, I get a

STOP: 0x0000007B error.

I've a google search on my lappy, but I'm not bright enough to figure out where to go next

Just so we are all aware, this problem was caused by Pika

Any more info required, or any next step, would be welcome.

We are thinking power may be an issue? 500-600 watt is min.rec. spec.
So is my 550 watt, just not giving enough juice?
This is Pika's next suggested move, but I could do without spending £70

Thanks in advance!

lets try to narrow this problem down, do you have a spare hard drive, if u do put that one in and try to install to that one and see if that message comes up. also there may be some sort of hardware incompatibility. Your current Hard disk may not be supported with the system.

Hi zyon,

I have tried this install on three different hd. The first hd would not install xp (thats another issue, but not important!), the next two hd's went thro the xp install, and in both cases, I got this error.

Update.....

After several bouts of and case slamming I'm now getting a

STOP: 0x00000071 error

SESSION5_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

Will this fun never end?

Trying to get a bootdisks (I may need these apparenty?), and I need to put it/them on a cd, but I'm having no joy there either.
Surely these things should be easy.

Stressed,
from North Wales.

All your Errors are pointing to a 'problem' with the hard drive ... whether or not you have the correct cable (correctly orientation), proper drivers, right boot sequence, MB problem I don't know ... you ain't telling.

Is the HD set to master ?
Is the HD connected to the correct end of the cable? ... blue = master HD, Gray = Slave HD & pretty colour = MB
Are you using an 80col cable?
Only have the HD on one cable & the CD/DVD on its own cable
What size is the HD ?
Can the BIOS identify it correctly, is the BIOS 48bit LBA compatible?

You do not need a boot disk, a real XP CD is a boot disk ... it is a real XP CD, innit?

questions questions questions now gimme the answers.

Have you allowed the c: drive to be one of your boot devices?Cableing is also very important as mentioned.I would like to point out that in cases where the cable has only the red stripe,it usually faces the power plug on the drive and follow the pinout to attach to the motherboard. The master ussually plugs into the center of the cable and the longer end ussually goes to the motherboard with the shorter on going to the slave. Most slaves can function with no pinning at all, however the master has to be pinned properly. Most HDD's come with a pinout pattern printed or stickered on them somewhere.I would like to point out that you can boot on any drive, including a slave providing that you set to that drive in the bios.If you are running your main program on the c: drive you can use most microsoft OS from 2000 on to establish a boot menu for multiple OS.I have encountered this error before. If you have all your settings co-ordinated you probably have a faulty boot disk.Remember to remove all the removable boot media when your computer reboots.Copy your setup disk to the HDD.This is a good way to test the quality of the setup data. Also, setting up the OS from the HDD is a good way to get around a lot of problems that you may encounter when booting from a CD.These simple steps may save you some lost hair while working on your "Y" drive.
