I have messenger service popped up on my new laptop screen everyday that I
never subscribed to. I wonder if anyone could help me how to stop it?

Thanks,

Dan

And that's a pretty feeble solution as well - if those ports are open to
the www, then the firewall isn't set up right (or doesn't exist), and
who knows what-all else is equally shared with the whole planet. By all
means stop messenger - as well, not instead of, fixing the firewall.

Turn off the Messenger service in services panel (Run services.msc), and
disable port 445 by adding the following registry key that does not exist by
default:

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters
Value: SmbDeviceEnabled
Type: DWORD value (REG_DWORD)
Content: 0 (to disable)
