Animation Compatibility Issue

I have a 2003 PowerPoint slide and I am working in 2007. I need to create
animation (lines wiping from left to right) in 2007 and then save it to be
compatible in 2003 (I am one of only a few in my office who are piloting the
new 2007 software). I am not sure about the new animation features in 2007,
but I can't seem to "ungroup" the elements and then create the animation. In
2007, it simply grabs all the elements and animates them - and the chart
stays linked to the original chart data.

Does anyone know how to create animation on a chart (linked to Excel data)
and save it backwards in 2003, and keep the animation working? (I hope I am
explaining this clearly!)
