hello,

I've been designing some process flow slides and have come back to a
problem that has bothered me in the past.

Each slide shows the detail breakdown of a single major phase of my
project, and ends with a rectangular element that is the name of the
next major phase. This next phase is broken down on the next slide
etc etc

it would be really nice if I could do one of two things:-

1. Move this box (in an animation) - scroll slide 1 out of view to
the left and at the same time scroll slide 2 into view from the right.
As this transition happens move our element from slide 1 to 2.

2. If I can't achieve this, can I visually show that slide 2 is an
expanded detailed view of one element on slide 1 (I'm thinking of some
sort of zoom arrows, or shading effect whereby the element expands and
leads the eye to slide 2 via animation & transition)

I'm using Powerpoint 2003, if that gives me extra options.

Here are a couple of things you might try (someone else might have better
suggestions):

1. Dont' make two separate slides. Put all the elements from both slides
one and two on the same slide and instead of a slide transition you can
have an exit animation for the elements that were supposed to go away.
2. The element that you want to animate across slides probably can't go
across the two slides, but you can have another copy of it on the second
slide that starts wherever it ended on the first slide.

Hi Chuck,
Another suggestion, based on your sentence "Each slide shows the detail
breakdown of a single major phase of my project" : make a small drawing
showing a succession of rectangles linked with arrows, each rectangle having
the appropriate phase number, like this :
Ph1---Ph2---Ph3--- etc.
Place a copy of this at the top of each slide, but change the color of the
current phase in each slide (sort of "navigation bar").

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for.
The scope of animation effects is the scope of the object which (with the
exception of multimedia) is the slide in which the object, to which the
animations are applied, resides.
