Angle of inclination of LCD display

Is there a standard angle of inclination for LCD displays to get the best
definition and color?

My wife insists on having the screen vertical but I like to have it facing
me squarely.

LCD screens do have a figure for the viewing angle, go outside that
and
you'll lose colour & definition etc.... it depends on the make/model/
type of LCD too.
It probbaly isn;t that important on a camera as you usually use then
as you say facing you squarely.

There is a horizontal and a vertical angle of view and it will depend
on the LCD.

There are different kinds of LCD panels. This one is relatively
insensitive to head position.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116421

Viewing Angle 178°(H) / 178°(V)

Panel IPS Panel [ In Plane Switching ]

*******

And this is a cheap TN panel, with a lower viewing angle range.
Here, you have to be careful, where you position yourself with
respect to the screen.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009210

Viewing Angle 160°(H) / 160°(V)

Panel TN [ Twisted Nematic ]

*******

It doesn't answer the question, of whether the preferred head
position is slightly off perpendicular or not. If you read
the descriptions, the panel should be symmetric. But I find
arranging my head to be below the horizon, with a TN, works
best. On my laptop, that means "tilting it back".

YMMV,

You are correct, if you care about the very best picture quality.
While some claim very wide angles for viewing, you can easily
see the decline in color quality and sharpness with VERY little
change in angle, if you are particular about best color quality and
sharpness. BTW, DO NOT let your wife convince you to hang
the TV on a wall w a y o v e r t h e r e . . . . . (you may as
well get a small TV and view it closely! ;-). A good 1080p 42"
looks good around 6-7 feet away (and permits 3-couch-cushion
viewing, with the side positions being acceptably good - but grab
the center, if you can...;-), and with some programming, much
closer viewing still looks good. And, DO NOT hang the dang
thing over the fireplace! UGH! This bespeaks users who care
little about the quality of the viewing experience. OK, while I'm
at it, forget about the miserable built-in sound on TVs. Hook
the cable-box, dish receiver, etc. directly to an integrated amp
or receiver (and forget the hokey "surround-sound" mush and
go for a good pair of front speakers [used older ones can be
good], properly placed for best sound [something few people
bothered to do even with "hi-fi"...]). So, there! ;-)

Presumably your monitor's face is vertical (and so is your torso); i.e.,
it's not flat on the desk while you're hovering over it. I'm assuming
that you aren't orbiting the Earth were the following comes into play
for definition of inclination angle:

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/angl...clination.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inclination

So, the best view for an LCD monitor is at:

zero degrees of inclination

Google still works:

http://www.google.com/search?q=best+...le+lcd+monitor

found:

http://compreviews.about.com/od/moni...yers-Guide.htm
"Viewing Angles"

http://www.elotouch.com/Support/Tech...wing_angle.asp

and many more.

That depends on your posture. Maybe your wife sits up straight and you
slouch. Your monitor doesn't pivot a bit on its stand, or you slouch
until you're almost prone? Sorry, I haven't seen any monitor stands
with a positioning motor and memory like you get for electric car seats
to accomodate multiple drivers of the same car. I'm sure if the
computer chair's height was adjustable, like with a pneumatic cylinder,
that you two would also be battling over the best seat height.
Different users = different ergonomic rgometric preferences.

So, again, your wife won the argument (as to what is best for her).
They always "win". Get used to it. As the husband: when you're wrong,
admit it; when you're right, shut up, nod your head, and then silently
go do it your way out of sight. It's easier that way.

Your wife is correct.

At any orientation other than exactly vertical, the liquid crystals in
an LCD display settle differentially with gravity, and adversely
affect image quality.

Paullie, I have precisely the same problem as you. She is for totally
vertical and I have it to suit myself.
We have kinda agreed to differ! :-(

It's a bit like car seat positions. When I drive my wife's car I have
to adjust the seats to my liking. When she uses the computer I have
to re-adjust the screen position to my liking.
