I've a big problem with Windows XP Home ( OEM ), the AMD drivers for
cpu scaling don't work anymore, so it run at 2,4Ghz the whole time, and
it's not good on a laptop.
I tried almost all version of the driver, and no one work. So I
tought of something, undex linux I can manually change the scaling (
even if the normal scaling work ) by writing the new cpuspeed in
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq, so I was
thinking if someone knew a similar thing under windows ?

Thanks for your help. Christophe R.

Try upgrading the OS to a retail version of xp pro w/64 bit capability.
When microsoft came out with the "free trade" from 32 to 64bit,it never
even offered home edition, only pro as it does now.

How would the OP do that, Andrew? There's no such thing as a retail
licensed version of WinXPx64, nor is there an upgrade path from any
32-bit OS to any 64-bit OS.

And what makes you think the OP has a 64-bit OS, anyway?

If I could it would be already done.
Maybe i'll wait Vista x64, but it's at least 6 month without using
windows :/
Damn, i'll stick on Ubuntu longer, but I hope to find something soon.
I already asked AMD about underclocking my CPU, and they said to
contact Microsoft about that, but as I'm using an OEM version of XP, I
can't contact the technical support, and Acers Support is crap !
