Wasn't the Yamato one of the big WWII-era Japanese battleships?

Yes it was!

Sure, and the Iowa was a big US battleship, and coincidentally a
state. Funny how those things work. ;-)

Screw the DDR2 part, it's also a dual-core Turion. :-)

I'm betting that the battleship Yamato would be the Japanese equivalent
of the battleship John Smith or battleship Muhammed Islam in other parts
of the world. :-)

From "Wikipedia:"

"Yamato, named after the ancient Japanese Yamato Province, was a
battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy, and was the lead ship of her
class. She and her sister ship Musashi were the largest, heaviest
battleships ever constructed, weighing 65,027 tons and armed with nine
46 cm (18.1 inch) main guns. ...

"Yamato was a province of Japan. It covered the part of Honshu that is
present-day Nara Prefecture. Since the Imperial court rose into power
there, Yamato came to mean the whole of Japan and in that sense is
referred to as "Great Yamato".

So it would be more like the battleship "Kremlin" or "Washington D.C."
rather than a person's name.

I don't really anticipate much from DDR2 in AMD's Athlon64 chips.
Perhaps it's the way of the future, but I doubt that we'll see much
performance increase. I would be surprised to see more than a 5% (on
average) increase in performance from DDR400 to DDR2-667.

On the flip side, the two memory technologies have virtually hit
price-parity at my local computer store, so it's probably about time
to move on to DDR2.

DDR2 is going to be a mainstream next year, prices for this memory are
falling faster than DDR prices (and now are almost equal - 1GB stick
~$60), The big plus of DDR2 is power consumption.
