AMD "powernow"

I have XP home service pack2. In my power options window is only
"portable/laptop" I believe that XP is supposed to accomodate AMD "powernow"
capacity to adjust my processor to maximize battery life. How do Iknow that
this is working properly?

processor is athlon 64 3000+
