Nforce 2/Barton and VIA KT800/Athlon 64 systems.

I set them up with WinXP SP1 OS and mobo drivers, no USB-2 devices
plugged in, no USB2 break out boxes or USB2 scanners, etc, ONLY USB 1
devices only! OK.....

Now I power up and let the PCs sit until the cpu die temps stablize.

Now plug in a USB 2 device and watch the CPU die temp (not the socket
temp). I see the cpu die temperature jump up instantly about 7C! I've
tried a few different USB 2 devices on both machines with same results.

CPU usage never changes according to Windows Task mngr.

So what the heck is making the CPU temps jump up so much, the USB 2
devices aren't even transfering any data or anyrhing, their just plugged
in and waiting to be used. I don't get it! Is this Normal?

Do Intel systems act the same way or is this some sort of AMD eratta?

Any of you EE's or gurus here have an answer for this, I don't need any
wild guesses, I already have enough of those thank you!

Regards,
Ed

Sounds like a Via problem. Is the USB 2 controller made by Via as well?

Stacey, who wouldn't be surprized if Via had a new "problem".
