Hey

First of all i would like to thank you for your time in
reading this letter.

I just got a whole new computer all part by part. It is
all set up now and everything is working fine accept one
thing, my cpu is wrong. I got a AMD ATHLON 2800+ from a
computer shop and now when i go to System properties
under control panel its saying that i only have 1.24ghz
and thats wrong and i dont know what to do. So if anyone
could please help me out it would be really appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

-Daniel

Athlons are not number by clock speed as Intel is. Your Athlon is not a 2.8
GHZ core frequency. Visit www.amd.com for a more thorough understanding of
the AMD numbering convention.

Equally, a 2800+ isn't 1.24GHz. Depending on the FSB (Tbred or Barton) it's
2.13 or 2.083. Now I look at it, I wonder if you thought it was a typo and
he meant 2.14GHz (in which case you're completely correct). For a 333 then
the multiplier should be 12.5, for a 266, 16. If his system is only
registering 1.24GHz, then he has..well, I don't know what he has as I can't
make it work out...I'll have to agree with you, it's a typo, he meant to
type 2.14 (which is slightly over clocked for a 2800+ Tbred) and he doesn't
understand the AMD convention.

Hi,
AMD...
You Motherboard's BIOS will go to a "safe value" for Multiplier AND Memory
Speed when you insert a new CPU.
Reboot and access it and reset both to recommended.

Hi, Danniel

According to what you have stated, I think you have
peurchased a wrong motherboard.
Please exchange the mother board to 2.800+ as the buss
speed also counts. As in the present senario you are
having a lower mother board so it is showing you 1.8
Please change your mother board.

Hope you succeed

Thank & bye

Rollie

Its not a 2800GHz Look at the amd website it explains all
also you may have a speed step processor which wont run at
full processing power unless there is alot running this is
to keep the processor from over heating etc

Hi Daniel -

Your processor has a 166MHz (333MHz double data rate) Front Side Bus (FSB)
and, using a multiplier of 12.5, results in a processor speed of
approximately
2083MHz (or an XP 2800+ Barton model).

Does your motherboard support a 166MHz (333MHz double data rate) FSB? If it
does, you either need to reset your processor speed in your BIOS or change a
jumper on your motherboard. If it doesn't, you likely will need to exchange
your processor for one that will clock at the maximum FSB of your
motherboard, exchange your motherboard, or accept the fact that you'll have
to manually overclock the multiplier to get anywhere near your processor's
native 2083MHz FSB.

Also ensure that you either have at least PC2700 DDR memory (which has a bus
speed of 166MHz) or faster, or your motherboard has the ability to run your
memory bus at a speed slower than your FSB.

Check AMD's Support page for more information: http://tinyurl.com/qknc

Jef
