I really don't think either company, i.e. Intel and AMD, has really
thought their technology through. I think it's just a battle of the
marketing departments. I mean who's supposed to get excited by Viiv?
System manufacturers or end-users? If it's supposed to be system makers
getting excited by this, then why does it still look like a PC, complete
with Microsoft Windows? Intel should be creating standalone chips that
can fulfill the role of a Media Centre PC without requiring the
Microsoft tax. Is Intel going to become a system manufacturer here?
As for AMD, who's going to get excited by such an obviously copy-cat
name as Live? AMD could claim all it wants that it's been using the Live
brand for two years now, but it was using it in a different context. It
only decided to extend the Live brand concept to this context because it
sounded so much alike.
