Hallo!

I installed today a new processor cooler for AMD. My CPU is AMD
Palomino 2000+ and it was working well with the old cooler but it was
too noisy and sometimes the temperature went over 70 C. Now after I
turned on my PC I got only black screen, the system was not starting
up. After 2 restarts it showed sings of life but than I noticed that
the Bios settings were changed. Namely the CPU frequency was set to
100Mhz and now the Bios reads my processor as AMD 1500+. Went again in
the Bios and set the frequency to 133 but it wont start again, the same

happens when I load optimized or fail-safe defaults. Althought it works

fine as it is now and the temperature is below 50 C I wonder what have
I done wrong. How come the processor wont start after a regular cooler
change?

Thank you!

Are you sure heatsink has been put on right?

That CPU is a bare die, subject to cracking (being destroyed) when
mounting a new HSF.

What make/model cooler did you install and what kind of thermal interface
material does it have? Did the old cooler come off easily and did you make
sure the original plasticky phase change material -- on retail CPUs at
least -- was cleaned off the CPU surface before installing the new? I
think you're going to have to take that new cooler off to check the CPU for
heatsink seating and/or damage.
