The last several days, I have been getting redirected to
an amazon.com advertisement page when I choose something
from my explorer favorites list, or type the address into
the browser bar.

I run Spybot and have cleaned out all of the cookie and
history files, and tried to find any installed programs
on my system, but nothing has worked so far.

Any suggestions?

You have probably inadvertently downloaded and installed adware,
spyware, parasite, trojan or a browser hijacker from some web site:

I am having the exact same problem. I have checked with everyone and no one has bee
any help. I tried to uninstall Internet Explorer and was going to reinstall it after. The viru
or whatever it is won't let you uninstall. I tried to reinstall XP. I ended up with the sam
problem after several hours of reinstalling. The problem is in Internet Explorer. I am no
using Netscape and Microsoft if you're listening - I give up on you. If anyone knows ho
to fix this problem let me know. I have tried all the latest virus software and it doesn'
pick anything up. I think this is a hack job on a Internet Exporer Plug-In and you can'
get rid of it.

Have you confirmed your DNS server addresses for your Internet
connection with your ISP? If you jotted down your configuration before
reloading everything, you may have jotted down the DNS server
addresses for the server that is redirecting you. If you did, then
your Internet connection would have been set up again to use a rogue
DNS server to translate URL's (web site names) to IP addresses,
(www.google.com 207.171.163.17). This means your problem would still
exist even though you reloaded everything. Double check with your ISP
to make sure your DNS server addresses are correct. Another place that
could be used to redirect you is a file called hosts.sam or hosts in
your \windows directory. It can be viewed and edited with notepad, but
I do not suspect this as you said you have reloaded everything. You
could double check this anyway to be sure. Let me know what you find.
If you had already solved your problem utilizing the steps from
previous posts, let me know what worked for you.
