Hi everyone!

I have formatted my HD and partitioned it into two (the original C: and

a Z. The C: is just 10Gb and I will use to hold the OS (Win XP Pro),

drivers et etc with the Z: holding everything else.

This being the case I am looking to try and move 'My Documents and
Settings' from the C: to the Z:.

I have already looked at the Windows Support Knowledge Base and came
across Article ID 314843 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314843/en-us)

titled "An error message informs you that you cannot move or rename the

Documents and Settings folder" which near the bottom has the
intructions for 'Moving the entire folder'.

I have followed the instructions but it doesn't seem to have
worked...My first question is:

When trawling the the registry I changed all of the value data that
started with C:\Documents and Settings\.... but some of the values
start differently but still have 'Documents and Settings' within it
i.e.:

\Device \HarddiskVolume1\Documents and Settings..
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Volatile Environment HOMEPATH \Documents
and Settings\Glenn etc etc

Do any of these need anything changing? The reason I ask is because
when I click onto 'My Documents' it is still pointed at C: and not Z:
and I can't figure out why!

Previous advice I had was "go to desktop->.my documents->
properties.....and chage the path to locate the my documents where it
is now "

But I did that and it's still not how I want it...For arguements
sake....If I create a new folder on my desktop I want the location to
be Z:\Documents and Settings\Glenn\Desktop however even after the
changes mentioned above my new folder still says C:\Documents and
Settings\Glenn\Desktop.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Glenn

Hi

You can only put that folder in a different location when installing XP.
You won't be able to move it otherwise. You need an unattended install of
XP.

This wouldn't be an issue as I've only just reinstalled the OS, so
doing it again is no problem.

Where/When during installation is this done as I don't remember seeing
this option. If there is a link to an 'idiots guide' it would be
appreciated.

Cheers
Glenn
