I am ready to upgrade

I am currently in the process of upgrading to 2000 from NT4. I have a test
lab where I used a BDC (promoted to PDC) to do the upgrade test. My problem
is that my domain name is HOA. I have around 100 machines in my domain. When
I upgrade to 2000 active directory and install my DNS, my domain name
becomes HOA.ORG. Do I need to worry about having to disjoin my old domain
and rejoin the new domain when I go into production.

I can not upgrade to 2003 yet. I do not have the licenses for it. The 2000
licenses were donated to us.

It's important to understand the difference between the internet DNS
system, Active Directory "Domains" and Windows NT (NetBIOS) "Domains".

I don't pretend to understand any of it, but if you mean can you have
HOA.ORG in Active Directory, but 1000 client PCs still having their
machine accounts and secure channel joined to HOA, then I'm pretty sure
the answer is "Yes" and eventually they'll migrate themselves.

Strangely, this was the exact same question I asked a consultant some
months back before we migrated, and he looked at me like I'd just landed
from the moon.

Not counting what you took into lab. When you upgrade your
Production PDC your whole domain including the pc's will
be apart of the upgraded domain. Make sure your dns is
working properly and all your clients are nt4 sp4 or
above. Your client also should have the dns suffix of your
domain "machine.hoa.org". the netbios name is still
there.if you didn't change it during upgrade. If you still
have BDC's you will want to stay in windows 2000 mixed
mode.

will the change of the domain name to hoa.org have any negative effects on
my Exchange 5.5 files?
