"always dial my default connection"

Yesterday, I downloaded and installed the latest security
fix from Windows Update. Now my browser no longer makes
my DSL internet connection automatically, even though the
property in the subject line above is STILL CHECKED. I
must now make the connection myself OUTSIDE of IE.
Otherwise, IE thinks it is offline, and will NOT
properly "retry". I don't know if it's related to that
security fix, but the timing is suspicious. Ideas?
